French rapper Lucas Coly, who garnered plenty of notoriety with his music and social media antics, has died at 27.
His manager confirmed Coly's passing in an Instagram post he uploaded on Thursday, October 3. No cause of death has been revealed, however, a hashtag that was edited out of his manager's caption (#checkonyourfriends) led fans to believe Coly may have taken his own life. Coly's final post on his Instagram Story says "I love yall" with an orange heart emoji.
"My heart feels ripped apart," Coly's manager wrote in his Instagram Story. "Please do not call me today. I'm going to be mourning. I never felt this type of pain before."
Lucas Coly was born in France and moved to the United States when he was eight years old, per NBC News. He first gained popularity as a rapper who would rap in French and English in Vine videos over a decade ago. His biggest song to date "I Just Wanna" dropped in 2016 and has amassed 19 million views and counting. He continued to gain more followers on social media, especially after he began dating fellow influencer Amber H in 2017. The couple launched a YouTube channel together the following year and built a loyal fanbase.
The couple never formally announced that they broke up, but fans believed there was trouble in paradise. Last year, she went on a rant about their relationship issues in a viral TikTok. They were seen together on an TikTok Live session earlier this year so it's possible that they worked things out. As of this report, Amber has not commented on Coly's death.
Rest in peace, Lucas Coly.
