It's always a party whenever Lil Duval touches the mic. The multifaceted comedian out of Duval County, Fla. knows how to win over any crowd with his sidesplitting jokes and energetic performances. After touring the country with an all-star team of hilarious comedians last year, Duval is ready to take his victory lap on the "We Them Ones Tour" 2025.
"I'm loving it, man," Duval tells iHeartRadio before he hit the stage at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla on Friday night. "It's nothing new to me. I've been doing this for a while now, so it's second nature for me."
The Jacksonville native, born Ronald Powell, has made fans laugh since 1999. He's spent the past two decades cracking jokes inspired by everyday situations he's witnessed throughout his lifetime. After all the entertaining stories he's told onstage and his daily uproarious posts on Instagram, Duval doesn't have to put much thought into his set nowadays. He's guaranteed to get roars of cheers and a few chuckles from the crowd as soon as he hits the stage.
"It's a blessing, man," Duvals says. "I mean, to be in the game this long and to be able to be relevant this long, ain't too many people can say that. Or to be able to evolve into how much the game has shifted in so fast and so little time. I guess it's a testament on me."
"I laugh at the normal stuff we see in life," he continues. "Comedy is not that much thought. I mean you can make it thought-provoking. Everything don't have to be thought-provoking, just life. You know what I'm saying? As long as you laugh, that's the key to everything. People don't care about how they laugh, they just want to laugh."
During his come-up as a comedian, Lil Duval made people crack up as a generational commentator on TV shows like "Guy Code" and a notable actor in movies like Scary Movie 5 and Meet The Blacks. He recently appeared in the AllBlack film The Contract, in which he and his wife negotiate the terms of a deal for what they both want most — a baby and a threesome.
In addition to his comedic acting roles, Lil Duval is also a solid Hip-Hop artist. After appearing in music videos for some of Atlanta's greatest rappers, Duval dropped his debut single "Wat Dat Mouf Do" in 2014 and struck gold with his 2018 hit "Smile Bitch (Living My Best Life)" featuring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy. Since then, he's released music with Too $hort, T.I., Jacquees and Tank. Last year, he dropped his single "UNCtivities," which went viral and sparked plenty of jokes from his fans. As far as his next hit goes, he'd rather keep it a surprise and drop it when he feels like the time is right.
"I like to just go by how I feel," he says about his music career. "I know nowadays everybody's doing an interview and they like to say what they're doing, but I think that kills the whole. We take for granted the element of surprise and just doing what we do. We doing too much talking, not enough entertaining. So I like to do a lot of the entertaining and just give y'all what I feel."
When he's not working on his own music or planning for his annual Duval Day, Lil Duval continues to bump new music. He's currently listening to new projects like Larry June, 2 Chainz & The Alchemist's Life Is Beautiful, Ball Greezy's Bae Day 6 and Eddie Valero's Just For Y'all.
"I love hearing something new so I'm always going to be a fan of new music," he says. "I'm not one of them just stuck in my old world, which ain't a bad thing if that's what your nostalgia is. But I just get a kick out of liking new music."
Expect Lil Duval to live his best life onstage at the "We Them Ones Tour" 2025 this spring. Presented by BMN Entertainment, the show stars Mike Epps, Kountry Wayne, Karlous Miller, Lil Duval, Tony Roberts, Mojo Brookzz, Bubba Dub, and Corey Holcomb. The ongoing tour will continue to other major cities across the U.S. until the final show in Atlanta on May 17. Duval says you'll be on your feet while dancing, singing and laughing all through the show — at least during his set.
"The difference is I do more than just comedy," he continued. "I mean, you going to sing, laugh, dance, but most importantly, you going to have a good time. And then we got all the other comedians on the show. You going to have a good time. You don't put too much thought into it. We doing too much thinking now on some s**t we can't control. So just come out and laugh and smile, b***h."
