A North Carolina man is feeling overwhelmed after scoring a big lottery prize in a second chance drawing.
Christopher Lunsford, of Chapel Hill, landed the top prize in Wednesday's (April 9) Money Rush Second Chance drawing, beating more than 7.7 million entries in the final drawing to win $100,000, according to a release from the NC Education Lottery. Speaking to lottery officials, he explained that he never thought he would win a prize like this.
"It's so overwhelming I don't know what to even say," he said, adding, "Never in my life did I expect something like this."
Lunsford claimed his prize at lottery headquarters on Thursday (April 10), taking home an impressive $70,582 after all required state and federal tax withholdings. According to lottery officials, he plans to use his winnings to possibly buy a house and also give some to his church. As for now, the Orange County man is still coming to terms with his win.
"This is a big change in my life," he said. "It still hasn't hit me yet."
Lunsford is the latest winner to score a huge prize thanks to a second chance drawing. Earlier this month, a Charlotte woman said her "crazy" win would allow her the opportunity to retire on schedule.
